The VSMMD is a tool for modeling line-of-business health scenarios and the associated instrumentation. The tool includes guidance packages that generate platform instrumentation (called Instrumentation Helpers) and validators to confirm that application source code contains instrumentation defined in the Health Model. Lastly is the Management Guide that contains prescriptive guidance on building highly manageable applications on the Microsoft Windows platform.
The VSMMD also includes a guidance package to export a transformed model to the stand-alone Management Model Designer (MMD). The MMD may be used to continue to model additional management attributes as you progress to the total system view. The MMD also enables you to generate a Management Pack for Microsoft MOM and System Center.
VSMMD is in an early stage of development. It was developed to help raise the Architect and Developer awareness of the ITPRO. patterns & practices is releasing this CTP with a level of functionality to enable the end-to-end adoption and consuption of the health modeling scenario from Architecture to IT.

SoftGrid 4.1 Service Pack 1
SoftGrid 4.1 SP1 is mostly a hotfix and critical updates release, improving overall system stability and compatibility. A noteworthy improvement is the ability to sequence applications using Side by Side assemblies (aka WinSxS), including Visual Studio Express and Office 2007, among many other applications from both third party ISV's and Microsoft. Expected availability is in the second quarter of this year and the release will be made available for download as soon as test is completed. We will release the Sequencer, Desktop Client, Terminal Server Client and Server at the same time.
SoftGrid 4.2
SoftGrid 4.2 builds on the 4.1 improvements by adding Windows Vista compatibility, both on the sequencer and client. There is not going to be a 4.2 version of the Server or the Terminal Server client as the moniker 4.2 is reserved for the components adding Windows Vista compatibility. We expect a final release some time around Q3 of this year. We expect 4.1 SP1 and 4.2 to maintain parity over time, the only exception being Windows Vista compatibility in the 4.2 components.

ISA Server y el SP2 De Windows.
1. If you run ISA Server 2004 Enterprise Edition with or without the ISA Server SP2, you must install ADAM SP1 on the ISA Server Configuration Storage Server prior to installing the Windows Server 2003 SP2. ADAM SP1 can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=9688F8B9-1034-4EF6-A3E5-2A2A57B5C8E4&displaylang=en.
If you install Windows Server 2003 SP2 without first installing the ADAM SP1, ISA Server will not start after the installation, and you will have to uninstall Windows Server 2003 SP2. Further information is available in the Windows Server 2003 SP2 release notes, at http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServer/en/library/ed5382af-e819-4d33-ace0-225d31b7ab751033.mspx?mfr=true .
2. If you run ISA Server 2000, 2004 or 2006 Standard or Enterprise editions on a multi-core / multi-processor 32-bit computer, and the CPU is heavily utilized, you might experience performance degradation in certain deployment scenarios after installing Windows Server 2003 SP2. The issue stems from a change in interrupt handling introduced in SP2.
To correct the issue you must download and run the Interrupt Affinity Tool (intfiltr) available in Windows Server 2003 resource kit (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9d467a69-57ff-4ae7-96ee-b18c4790cffd&DisplayLang=en).

3. If your network adaptors (NICs) support receive-side scaling (RSS), then in certain NAT scenarios ISA Server 2000, 2004 or 2006 Standard or Enterprise editions might not transfer packets from one NIC to the other after installation of Windows Server 2003 SP2.
To correct the issue you must disable RSS support - follow the instructions in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;927695.
Nueva "compra de licencia" Smarts y Microsoft.
Key to the announcement, Microsoft is licensing EMC® Smarts® network discovery and health monitoring technology to be included in a future version of Microsoft® System Center Operations Manager, the company’s award-winning solution for end-to-end service monitoring in the enterprise IT environment. Additionally, EMC is also developing value-added network management and root-cause analysis management packs to be used in conjunction with both current and future versions of System Center Operations Manager.
Delivering against the initial phase of this agreement, EMC today is announcing the EMC Smarts Connector for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007. This two-way connector enables Smarts to share network discovery, topology and root-cause events with Operations Manager and for Operations Manager to synchronize alert status and resolution back to EMC Smarts technology — thus allowing customers to leverage the benefits of a closely integrated network and systems management suite for service availability today. The connector will be generally available in May 2007.

En https://connect.microsoft.com ya se puede acceder a la beta del SCCP 2007, este producto nos permite generar una arquitectura dimensionada segun los parametros que introduzcamos.
Las arquitecturas pueden ser de MOM o Exchange, aunque se supone que en SCCP 2007 se podran realizar tambien para productos como Sharepoint o SQL, pero esto esta por confirmar.
El producto parece avanzado, tiene una ayuda muy desarrollada para ser una beta y se espera que salga en Julio.
Los modelos generados son modificables, se puede introducir nuestro propio Hardware y definir los parametros de nuestras comunicaciones, en fin una herramienta muy interensante para todos los que tenemos que ocuparnos del dimensionamiento.
Animaros a probarlo, la beta solo ocupa 5Mb.
SCOM 2007 tambien conocido como MOM 20007 o Mom v3, ya esta en RTM de momento solo esta para descarga la versión de evaluación pero en unos dias podremos contar con la versión para Select y MSDN.
El anuncio oficial se realizara en el MMS.
Las novedades de esta versión son muchas pero sin duda hay que destacar la evolución del producto para monitorizar de una forma mas basada en soluciones que en servidores.

Pues si, finalmente despues de mucho tiempo, Microsoft ha escuchado a sus usuarios y ha incorporado a la consola de "Site and Services" y a la de "Users and Computers" un nuevo tab a los objetos desde la que se pueden editar sus atributos en el AD.
Hasta ahora para realizar esta función habia que usar extensiones personalizadas de la consola que son muy dificiles de hacer, scripts conectados o no con Display specifiers, el adsiedit.msc o programas propios o de terceros.
Por si fuera poco, las fechas aparecen ahora en formato humano y no en el endemoniado formato tipico del AD.
Para poder ver este tab es necesario poner la consola en "advanced view"

No hay que regodearse, pero sí que hay que reconocerle a Microsoft que sus esfuerzos en materia de desarrollo de software seguro dan sus frutos y Vista es un buen ejemplo de ello.
Nadie está a salvo de los fallos, ayer en un informe sobre tendencias en las amenazas de seguridad podíamos leer como Symantec decía que es lógico pensar que Vista se convierta en el mayor objetivo de los desarrolladores de Malware, estoy totalmente de acuerdo con Symantec. En ese mismo informe podemos ver como Microsoft es la empresa que requiere menos tiempo para producir un parche desde que aparece la vulnerabilidad, es curioso ver en ese informe como hay sistemas operativos que requieren de más de 100 días de media para sacar un parche (http://www.symantec.com/enterprise/theme.jsp?themeid=threatreport).
Rodea la montaña: Si no puedes atacar Windows, ataca el software que tiene alrededor sea de Microsoft o no.
"While Microsoft has long been the primary target for criminals looking to exploit system vulnerabilities, now other applications such as Systems Management, QuickTime, iTunes and even security applications from companies like Symantec and McAfee are being used as a means of entry into the network. eEye's research team has identified these exploits as part of a growing trend of attacks that target consumer-oriented applications rather than the operating system itself, as well as bypass network-level security technologies traditionally used by organizations, including IDS gateways or gateway-based anti-virus systems. Este mes podéis leer un articulo mío en la revista Windows TI Magazine sobre ISA Server 2006.
El artículo detalla a través de un caso práctico ficticio la instalación de ISA Server 2006 en una empresa haciendo uso de gran parte de las funcionalidades que proporciona este fantástico producto.
El escenario contempla cosas como la tolerancia a fallos, el acceso remoto site-to-site, las VPN de usuarios, el cache distribuido, las novedades de ISA 2006, el uso de ISA junto con IPSec, escenarios avanzados de publicación, etc.

Prueba Softgrid.
Mucha gente me ha preguntado por la forma de conseguir probar Softgrid, el caso es que si no se tiene Software Assurance es un poco dificil conseguirlo, ahora Microsoft ha liberado un lab que os permitira trastear un poco con el producto.
El lab trata del conector con SMS aunque como sabeis no es necesario usar SMS para poder usar SoftGrid.

Incompatibilidades en SQL SP2.
1. If you enable vardecimal storage on a database, you can't restore or attach an SP2-post vardecimal format database backup on an SP1 instance.
2. You can't use SP2 Analysis Services backups and data folders on pre-SP2 instances of Analysis Services
3. Analysis Services databases with linked measure groups can have problems on SP2. The most likely ones will be databases migrated from AS2000. See the SP2 Readme file for specifics.
4. You can't use Database Maintanance Plans from an SP2 instance will an SP2 instance, because the SP2 maintanance plans can have multiple schedules.

Bueno, ya estoy de vuelta de Redmon, donde 35.000 señoritos de Microsoft trabajan haciendo productos como el que no quiere la cosa.
Muchas charlas y cosas interesantes sobre NDA que no puedo contar :-) , pero atentos a los próximos meses que vendrán acompañados de sus betas interesantes.
Alguna demo de hypervisor, como no de la siguiente versión de SQL Server (la caña), mucho live, algún SP por venir y grandes conversaciones con algún indio guru que otro.
Mucha fiesta y conversación con los MVP, en fin un balance muy positivo, ahora me quedan 1500 correos por leer un reader de RSS a reventar y trabajo acumulado.
En lo que estaba al otro lado del charco salió a la luz el video DE CACHONDEO (esto va por los que me habéis pedido mi opinión) que grabe con el gran Maligno y los evangelistas José Parada, David Cervigón y David Salgado.

Mañana salgo para Redmon al MVP Summit de este año, unos cuantos días en el epicentro del universo dedicados a aprender todo lo que se pueda.
Lo mejor del Summit es que todo el mundo que va, lo hace porque quiere, a diferencia de otros eventos, nadie está allí porque su empresa lo haya mandado.
La mayoría de los MVPs son gente que disfruta con estas cosas, el Summit también es una oportunidad para conocer gente con la que solo hablas por correo electrónico, hablar con los desarrolladores que hacen los productos y aprender un montón de cosas bajo NDA que no os podre contar aquí.
Me llevo muchas cosas para leer en el avión, un juego para la PSP, cursos de ingles en la ipod J, el inevitable portátil por si pasa algo en la oficina, dos PDAs, por el contrario me dejo un montón de stress dos webcasts para la vuelta y unos cuantos artículos por terminar.
Echare de menos al Maligno (Chema Alonso) y al chico maravilla (Ricardo Varela) que este año no pueden ir, pero veré a otros cracks como Miguel Jiménez, Luis Fraile, Cesar de la Torre, Benjamín Mateos y tantos otros.
A las 7 de la mañana saldran los autobuses para las oficinas de Microsoft desde los hoteles y casi todas las noches hay fistas, que duro es ser MVP!!!
